a. Under the spiritual direction and authority of His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta, the Chancellor serves as Administrator of the Metropolis of Atlanta Offices, including its personnel and assets, record-keeping, and day-to-day operations

b. Provides support for the life and well-being of our Metropolitan family—His Grace Bishop Sevastianos, clergy, parishes, and Metropolis Office, as well as the Metropolis Council and the Diakonia Retreat Center Board

c. Supports and facilitates our Archieratical Vicarships and semi-annual Vicars Meetings and leadership weekends (fall and spring)

d. Assists Metropolitan Alexios with clergy assignments, transfers, and reassignments

e. Encourages compliance and support with clergy compensation guidelines and Archdiocese clergy benefits

f. Encourages clergy development, continuing clergy education, sabbaticals, vacation, and adherence to protocols developed for Metropolis Registry

g. Oversees administration of the Office of the Metropolis Registry (reporting of sacraments of baptisms, chrismations, weddings, processing ecclesiastical divorces, administration of Spiritual Courts, and recording deaths throughout the parishes of the Metropolis of Atlanta)

h. Seeks compliance with Archdiocese Statement of Policy regarding Sexual Misconduct by Clergy and the Archdiocese Youth Protection Policy, serving as Metropolis Co-Adjudicator

i. Supports and facilitates compliance with Metropolis issues of Parish Administration (including development of model local parish by-laws)/Parishes facing difficult situations/Parish Council Elections, and Metropolis Strategic Planning

j. Supports and facilitates Metropolis Mission Parish requests/Grant Funding

k. Reviews and follows up as necessary with Metropolis Monthly Accountability Reports—Parish Support of Archdiocese Total Commitment and Metropolis Support

l. Serves on Metropolitan Finance Committee, Archdiocese Finance Committee and Archdiocese Council

m. Encourages support/compliance of Metropolis Parish Facilities Committee (which advises Metropolitan Alexios on parish requests involving the sale or purchase of real estate or projects involving building, renovation, iconography, and/or renovation)

n. Encourages and facilitates support for Clergy, their Presvyteres/Families, Clergy Retreats/Workshops, Clergy Syndesmos Meetings, President’s Workshops, Philoptochos Society, Archangel Michael Feast & Honors, Diakonia Deca, Diakonia Retreat Center, Archons, Clergy-Laity Assembly & Philoptochos Conference, Clergy-Laity Congress, Parish Council Candidate Training, Parish Development seminars, Youth/Education/Culture Diakonias, UPR/local parish by-laws, Metropolis publications, including website,  Metropolis Messenger, and Diakonia Publication, St. Photios Shrine, OCMC, IOCC, Pan-Orthodox efforts, Ministries for Special Disabilities, Leadership 100, public relations, inter-denominational liaisons with other faiths and denominations, including Catholic-Orthodox Ecumenical Gatherings, and Holy Unmercenaries Medical Society

o. Chairs the Annual Archangel Michael Feast & Honors Program

p. Supports the development and ministries of Diakonia Retreat Center

q. Supports and assists the Office of Disaster Relief as circumstances may require

r. Serves as what His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios lovingly refers to as the “Office of Complaints”—receives and seeks to resolve conflicting issues that arise from our Metropolis clergy, parishes, and ministries, according to our Archdiocese, Metropolis, and Parish UPRs, as well as according to the guidelines and directives from Metropolitan Alexios, our Spiritual Father and Shepherd, whom the Chancellor keeps informed and with whom all matters are ultimately referred and resolved

s. Represents Metropolitan Alexios as directed at Metropolis events he is unable to attend, and represents him in his absence as directed and appropriate per our Archdiocese and Metropolis guidelines

[Fr. George Tsahakis serves as Chancellor of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis (Diocese) of Atlanta and Pastor at St. Christopher Hellenic Orthodox Church in Peachtree City, Georgia. He has earned degrees from The College of William and Mary (B.S.), Duke University (M.H.A.), and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology (M.Div.). After serving as a hospital administrator, he was ordained a Deacon and then a Priest.
