On November 5-6, Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Mobile, Alabama, hosted a regional conference on Byzantine music and chanting by the Archdiocesan School of Byzantine Music. Over thirty people attend the workshop, representing eight parishes from our Metropolis. We were blessed with a visit from His Grace Bishop Sevastianos who offered the opening prayer for the workshop and spoke to the participants about the importance of our ecclesiastical musical tradition. Everyone attending the workshop was invited to help chant the services of Great Vespers on Saturday evening, as well as the Orthros and Divine Liturgy on Sunday morning.
On November 5, Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church also hosted the annual Greek Fest Charity Gala. His Grace offered the opening prayer and keynote address. Since 2016, the Greek Fest Charity Gala has raised awareness and financial support for both local charities in Mobile, Alabama, and Orthodox Christian ministries for our Metropolis and Archdiocese. This year, the Gala offered support to Penelope House of Mobile, a shelter and resource center for victims of domestic violence, as well as the Orthodox Christian Network.
