I greet you with a heavy heart after the recent shooting at a Pittsburgh Synagogue. In times like these, when people are increasingly divided as a result of politics, race, and even religion, it is unfortunate that such an outburst of violence can now seem so commonplace. I echo the sentiments that may have, unfortunately, had to express so often: there is no place for these kinds of violent actions in any civilized society, regardless of one’s politics, race, or religion.
Our hearts and our prayers go out to the victims and their families. May God offer all our Jewish brothers and sisters consolation and strength in this sobering time, and may this terrible tragedy finally become a call for all people to practice true understanding, peace and love.
