Saint Porphyrios was organized and named under the omophorion of His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios, and guided under the direction of His Grace Bishop Sevastianos of Zela beginning in to give us direction in November 2020.
After the expiration of a six-month lease, a local funeral home has allowed us to use their chapel on Sunday mornings to the present date, and I am happy to report that we have found a very appropriate location to celebrate Divine Liturgy for the next five years. We celebrate Orthros and Divine Liturgy every Sunday morning at 9:15 AM/10:00 AM.
St. Porphrios continues to grow with new families and individuals, not only each Sunday, but also thanks to a Zoom Bible study on Wednesday nights at 7 PM, and a second catechism class series on Thursday nights at 7 PM. Our outreach to non-Orthodox has been very successful and presently there are five catechumens participating in the catechism classes.
We have already had three adult baptisms. We hope and pray that we can be given a grant from Leadership 100 or another source to continue to help us grow and maintain an Orthodox presence in this area that has none. In addition to Jacksonville, North Carolina we are currently ministering to the faithful and potential converts of New Bern, Morehead City, Emerald Isle, Sneads Ferry, Richlands, Swansboro, Hubert, Atlantic Beach, Cape Carteret, Newport, Oriental and other outlying areas. May we have a blessed Lenten season! -freely adapted from Fr. Regis Alexoudis
